Day In The Life:

As part of the Stores, Operations and Construction team, the DVP of Construction will have overall responsibility of the Construction team by providing them with guidance and leadership while overseeing responsibility of field teams, construction & financial aspects of all projects to meet demands of HBC Business Units located in Canada.

What You Will Do:

  • Plan and implement projects in partnership with the lead for Store Planning Design and Construction in accordance with direction from business unit leaders.
  • Oversee the entire Construction team towards completion of projects, organization and operation of all project related activities.
  • Partner with Financial Control in the Build and manage the capital budget.
  • Lead/Partner in the bidding scheduling, budgeting or projects and preparation of various reports.
  • Negotiation and management of contracts with Consultants, Engineers and Contractors.
  • Conduct research on various new products as well as resources to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Meet regularly with direct reports to ensure development of team and timely execution of projects.
  • Meet weekly with SVP Stores and update on Projects, timelines, and budgets

What You Will Need:

  • Advance knowledge of Retail and Construction management
  • Proven track record in the Management and execution of full cycle real estate development and construction
  • Degree in Engineering or Construction
  • 10 + years of management experience with a retailer firm preferred
  • Intimate knowledge of Design, Architecture and Construction process, as well as Building code
  • Background in Procurement and Construction highly preferred
  • Advanced understanding of retail design as it relates to permits, zoning etc…
  • Strong written and oral language skills
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Strong presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Knowledge of building codes, financing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Potential for travel up to 25%
